We were working under a certain budget for this trip, and at normal rates we would not have stayed here. But, by using Hyatt stay certificates we were able to stay here for $165/night, less than half the going rate. The hotel is located at Potsdamer Platz, which we found to be a decent location. We were able to walk to the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate and then down to museum island. Ku’damm in West Berlin was an easy short subway ride away.
Check in was nice and smooth, with the doorman taking our luggage and having it sent to our room. The lobby is very attractive with mass plantings of flowers. Going to our room, the hallways were kind of ugly with red carpeting and gray walls. Nothing wrong, just a bit off-putting. The room was very nicely styled, fortunately with no red carpet. We were surprised that the television was not a flat screen, as they seem fairly ubiquitous in higher-end hotels these days. Great bed and pillows. Our view was of an inner courtyard, but at the rate we were paying we did not really care. A large bathroom with heated marble floors had a large bathtub stocked with Aveda products. Nice extra touches like bathrobes and slippers added to the luxury.
While checking out we discovered a charge on our bill that we did not make, and they removed it with no fuss. Overall, a very nice hotel. We could not help but compare it to the Park Hyatt Tokyo, where we have stayed twice. We have heard the Grand Hyatt Berlin called one of the best Hyatts in the world, but in our eyes the Park Hyatt Tokyo is tops (but then we’re biased-it’s where we spent our honeymoon)
Would We Stay Here Again? Yes
