Money Matters

Written by Weszt | February, 5, 2008

While visiting travel websites I have noticed that one of the most commonly asked questions (aside from what to wear, of course) is what to do about money.  Should you exchange at a bank before you go or once you are there?   Buy traveler’s checks?  Use credit cards?  In this Travel Tips installment I’ll review the options and recommend the best way to obtain foreign currency.

Paying For Your Vacation

Written by Weszt | March, 6, 2007

Whenever Weszt and I tell people where we’re going for our next vacation, invariably someone will say: “Wow, you guys are so lucky to travel so often.  I wish I could could go to ____.”

Actually, we don’t travel nearly as much as we would like to either.  Work and money constraints temper our dream.  But, we manage to make the most of what we have.  You can too.  It all depends on your wants.  Some people may say, “Wait, I could spend $5000 on some trip that will be over in a couple of weeks, or I could buy a new plasma television and stereo system, or put a down payment on a new car.”  And do you know what?  That’s okay.  They have different priorities.  I can admit that before a major trip purchase (such as airline tickets) I feel a tinge of regret for what I could be spending that money on (or saving it, as my mother would prefer).  But, I look at each vacation as a potential trip of a lifetime.  Long after that tv has died, long after that car has been sold, I’ll still look back at my trip with fondness.  I haven’t regretted a single trip I’ve ever taken.  Sure some were better than others, but each was a new experience.  So if you would rather spend your hard earned money on something other than a vacation, that’s your choice.  Just don’t do that and then complain how you can’t afford to take a vacation!

This is the order I recommend following when trying to narrow down a hotel: (more…)

Booking Airfare

Written by Weszt | February, 3, 2007

Booking airfare seems to be one of the most stressful aspects of trip planning.  From the posts I’ve read on travel forums, people constantly fret over the tickets they are about to buy or even already bought.  Is this a good price?  Will the price go down if I wait?  How is this airline?  Are the connections too close?  Here I give you some tips on how to find the best fare.
