Staying on Mont St Michel for the night is about the only way to explore the mount without hordes of tourists.  Unfortunately for those on a budget, hotel rooms there do not come cheap. I found a “duplex” for four people at the Hotel St Pierre for €158 that had two small bedrooms and one bathroom.  So, even though we were all staying in the same room, there was some privacy.

First of all, let me say that there are steps.  A lot of steps.  Now, Mont St Michel is steep, and to be able to visit the abbey you must be able to handle a lot of steps.  But, overall, there were a lot of steps to this room.  Most of the hotels on the mount have rooms that are apart from the main building, and this room was up a hill, several flights of outside stairs, and then two flights inside.  I only emphasize this for those who might have a problem with a lot of stairs; they would probably need to request a room in the main building.

Back to the room.  It was on the top floor of the building and had vaulted wood beam ceilings.  The room did not seem to have air conditioning, and it was a little stuffy.  There was a double bed in one room and 3 singles in the other, so five people total could stay here, although it would be a bit crowded. The bathroom included a tub and was newer and clean looking.  There was a partial view of the bay, but nothing to write home about.  Overall, the room was a bit worn, but everything was clean and a good deal for Mont St Michel.

Would We Stay Here Again? Yes.
